About the Author

Dr Emiline Smith is criminologist, who researches how and why cultural and natural resources are exploited, looted, trafficked, and traded. She firmly believes that cultural and natural heritage belong with and to their communities of origin. Her work therefore focuses on reinstating access to, agency over and ownership of such resources to their rightful owners.

Emiline was born in the Netherlands, but her passion for cultural and natural heritage led her to live in many countries all over the world.

Besides travelling, Emiline also loves tea, vegan food (especially cakes!), and scuba diving. When she is home, she likes to test out vegan baking recipes.
